(Police 08) Thanks Mom! for the Bento


Bento is definitely an integral part of Japanese culture.
You can purchase different style of Bento called the "Eki Ben"(literally means meals at the station) at most of the larger train stations. And each station would usually have their specialty bento box. I did a little research and holy crap, there's hundreds of different kinds of bento boxes throughout Japan.

When I was attending the middle-school in Osaka, my Mom would get up every morning to prepare bento boxes for me and my brother. And this is not slapping some lunch meat between two slices of bread, folks. She'd have to cook rice, fry this, fry that, and had to actually cook a set of meals so that I can huff it down in like 5 minutes, choke a bit, then wash it down with tea so that I can go outside to kick ass in the afternoon dodge ball session.

Bento is also readily available at all the convenience stores in Japan. By the way, convenience stores are ubiquitous in Japan is an understatement times 2. Convenience store (or konbini) is like Starbucks in the States. Almost in every other corner, you'd see either 7 Eleven, or ever-so-popular Lawson.

    Thanks for all the continuing support.
    For those waiting for the U-tube upload, please be patient, it'll be up before the end of the day (in my timezone.)
    As for the typical bento box prices, I'm seeing anything from approx. $5 up to $15 in average. Of course, there are some really gourmet bento that sells for as much as $100!

    I've never had authentic japanese bento box in my entire life. I'm guessing they don;t export them overseas eh?

    hey, a challenge for shibata or any other gaki fan,,, or maybe a request as i would rather put it,,, could any of you make a wav/awb format tone of the sound they make when someone is out? "teneeeeen!!! matsumoto out!" like that? and upload it so anyone can DL it and use it on the fone? thanks!!!

    Looks like you have live at Japan for quite a while... i wanna ask you something, do you actually being accepted by the Japanese community while living there? i asked because i learn from the Japanese culture subject at my university that they actually not very open to non-Japanese since they are a proud community, and usually treat the non-Japanese as outsider even though you live in their country. Even though it is possible to be accepted in their community.

    Wow, the last question regarding "being accepted in Japanese community" is a tough one. I might be better off asking my wife about that since she's lived in Japan as a "foreigner" and have gone through some ups and downs over there.

    thanks shibata,,, it all started in a dream,, it's like i was in a train then the tone suddenly rang and it said "teneeeen! xavier out!!" i was waiting for someone to hit or spit a dart or whip my butt but to no avail,, haha,, then i had the idea of having it as a ring tone,,

    Shi, you intrigue me. Are you dual nationality or something? Your English is really good if you've learnt it from scratch as a native Japanese.

    As for the sound file, I'd do it myself, but I can't find a sample that hasn't got clapping/laughing overriding it. I'll keep looking I guess...
