ひな祭り Hina matsuri
The Japanese Doll Festival (雛祭り Hina-matsuri), or Girls' Day, is held on March 3. Platforms covered with a red carpet are used to display a set of ornamental dolls (雛人形 hina-ningyō) representing the Emperor, Empress, attendants, and musicians in traditional court dress of the Heian period.
Thanks Wikipedia.

May I say these buns look like brains?
wazzzup Shiba!
ReplyDeletequestion: i believe i've asked this before on the gaki forum but really didn't get a straight answer. but why do many Japanese shows use subtitles? is it just to add more character to the show? or is the language hard to understand even for japanese people?
and as always, thanks all the stuff you provided til now. laterz fooooo!
first off, Call of the Wild this week goes to Mrs. Shibata. the Japanese version of a fly doesn't even come close.
ReplyDeletebtw, thanks for the lesson this week. i learn something new every time.
Question: ever since i was a little kid, i've always wanted to know why Japanese magazines or Manga are read starting from the last page. is there a specific reason for this and are all books and reading material in Japan read this way?
Thank you for answering my question about 'itai - pain' (i used my real name now) (jeroen is a male name in case you were wondering :p )
ReplyDeletethe call of the wild goes to the bzzzt, you definitly need the 'z' to make it sound like a fly.
Great podcast! I'm gonna look for some more questions. Bye!
from CowgoesMeow
ReplyDeleteHi, I have two questions.
1:what does shibatabread mean? shibata and bread?
2:I heard japanese are sort of racist toward other asian people(like better). Is that still true? I guess this will be a third question. How come some restaurant have signs that "japanese only"?
Thank you so much for taking the time to do these podcasts!
ReplyDeletehi Shibata
ReplyDeleteIve been following your podcast since day one and here is my thought about it. I have only one request please give the Q&A more space cause a lot of us have questions and your are like our Gateway to thoose answers :P So please less call from the Wild and more Q&A ( the call of the wild has been to long on some podcast ) But i do love the rest of the segments so once again Less call of the wild more focus on the Q&A
shibatabread u should make a youtube account and make your own show, get partnership and earn money from the videos u make. doe u'll have to make a seperate account for your subbed videos :)
ReplyDeleteyou should post a picture of you and your wife or make it your avatar so we can see you :).
ReplyDeleteYour reference to dolls reminded me of the anime called Ghost Hunt. lol
ReplyDeleteYeh I live in Kyoto at the moment but my mates use osaka-ben so I hear 'ita' instead of 'itai' but when i lived in Tokyo I would hear 'ite' alot... another example is late, kansai 'oso' but the real word is 'osoi' and again in Tokyo 'osee'. I hope that helps at all! (笑)
ReplyDeleteThank you for your awesome podcast!
