As promised, here's the subbed version of the Absolutely Tasty Tempura Tournament.
For whatever the reason, this one took me way longer to translate than the most.
Anyhow, let's check out one of the ingredients seen in the video.
純とろ Jyuntoro is a dried kelp shaving
Shaving is seasoned with sugar and vinegar. When eaten as a soup, it literally just dissolves in your mouth. It is definitely an acquired taste as with many Japanese dish.
If you don't live nearby any Japanese grocery market, you can purchase one online here
Enjoy,

If it is then I guess it's time to get busy, mr. shibatabread. Hahahha

ReplyDeletelucky13jesse- I believe this was taped around 2005 when Endo and Chiaki were still married.
ReplyDeleteAs for the new Batsu Game, my tweet was merely an rumor.

ReplyDeleteThe world had seen many great men who brought a new insights and means for Peace, Love and Happiness, amongst them were prophets, poets, intellectuals, great thinkers and writers and Scientists.
ReplyDeleteShibatada, your work is no lesser than them, you have a passion to tranlate for thousands of people to make them laugh for a minute or an hour in their day, Never Depreiate your work, You are doing a prophetic and a sacred work, to make people laugh, and therefore inject some happiness in their mere life.
We, as your viewers, can't thank you enough, If donations are the least we can do, then please forgive us for our short support.
download link??? please XD
ReplyDeleteThank you! I wish I could DL these (I see the subs, but I don't know where to find the raws). But I'm happy to be able to watch them. I can definitely get most of the humor if I watch them without the subtitles, but the translation adds things that my Japanese level isn't good enough to pick up yet. I'm really thrilled to see more of this segment than I'd seen on D-Addicts. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThanks for you and your wife's work on subbing this! Much appreciated.
ReplyDeleteOh, and if you are debating what to sub next, would you take the cosplay bus series into consideration? I would love to see that one subbed.
Hi ShibataBread and Mrs ShibataBread, I've really only just begun to read your blog and follow your podcasts (which incidentally, I think are great!). Thank you both for all the work you put in!
ReplyDeleteI really appreciate that your translations aren't just literal, you really make an effort to ensure that the spirit of the humour comes through even to non-Japanese speakers, and those who might not be as familiar to Japanese culture. (I'm sorry for the weird description, you'd think as having a degree in Linguistics would help me to articulate these concepts better!)
I'm so looking forward to whatever you post next!
please do the chawanmushi and mochi one....awesome subs. this made my day
ReplyDeleteHeipo loved the bee larva hahahah thanks! Looking forward to your next subs! :D
ReplyDeleteThank you all for your kind words.
ReplyDeleteLet me see what I can do about the raw footage...
Thanks so much! May I suggest the "Hebereke Sungeki Momotaro" bit? That one had me literally gasping for breath laughing!

ReplyDeleteThank you shibata!! Great job subbing!
ReplyDeleteIf donations would help make your decision on translating the new Batsu, I would also be willing to contribute.
ReplyDeleteyea, shibata should place a donate link on his website, if people want to they can give him a small donation as a way of saying "thank you!".
ReplyDeleteThat is perfectly fine for the Donation link.
ReplyDeleteThank you all and Happy Thanksgiving to those who celebrates.
ReplyDeleteI do have donation button under the "FAQ+Sub Files," if you downloaded the sub files and would like to make a contribution.
Thanks, and I will have more videos coming to you soon.

ReplyDeletebut since we are all gaki fans, and also BIG fans of shibatabread,
just wanted to share the news, that this years New Year Special...
the whole crew will be....
SPYs
so... there is something to look forward too :D
I hate to be the prick here, especially since I really do love these subs as they've done a lot to help me in learning Japanese (to the point I'm working on my own subs for certain Lincoln and Gaki shows in my spare time when I'm not at school). But I have to point this out, I think he deep fried tororo konbu (shredded kelp) and not tororo yam. The yam would still be white and pasty while that sort of stringiness and the pale green color seen in the video is typical tororo konbu.
ReplyDeleteThank you Anonymous for the correction. I made changes on this blog page, and will make the necessary changes in sub files as well.
ReplyDeletethanks Shibata i enjoyed this a lot, kindly do the other tasty series, i want to see the wedding cake that Matsumoto used as his ingredient
